11 “But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.
12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 7:11-12
God had made the plea of what He wanted the people to do - to care about each other and the needy.
Their response was refusal and indifference, they closed their ears so they wouldn’t hear what God had to say to them and they made their hearts like stone. God pleaded with them through prophets that He sent and they refused - and so they suffered. The Babylonians came and they went into captivity for 70 years.
We have a time of hearing - of God telling a nation what HE wants them to do and when the response is cold-hearted refusal and a desire not to hear God’s words--well the end of that nation doesn’t end well.
